Supporting Family After the Loss of Char
Hello, my name is Chloe. I was Kota’s daycare teacher for over 4 years, and I’ve remained a support to him, his mom, and his dad since. All money raised will go directly to her son Kota, and partner Brian Haines Cooke
On November 30th, our community experienced a heartbreaking loss. Char — a loving mother, partner, and friend — passed away unexpectedly. Her son, Kota, lost his entire world: his mom.
Char was originally from Sachigo Lake First Nation and moved to Dryden, Ontario to build a better life for her and her son. When I met her in 2020, it was her, Kota, and their cats against the world. She was a devoted single mom who worked tirelessly to give her little boy the safe, joyful, and loving life he deserved.
A short time later, Char and Brian began building their life together. Brian quickly became a steady support — someone Kota could proudly call “Dad” and the father figure he deeply needed. Together, they created a loving home for their family.
This tragedy has left the family navigating overwhelming grief, uncertainty, and financial strain. Family members will be off work for an unknown period of time as they focus on supporting Kota and each other through this unimaginable time.
All funds raised will go directly to:
• Travel expenses for family
• Food and daily necessities
• Care for their pets
• Support for Kota and Brian through the holiday season and beyond
Anything you are able to contribute will help this family focus on healing while ensuring Kota and Brian remain surrounded by love, stability, and care.
Thank you for your compassion, generosity, and support.
