Chapter II Home

My name is Drew and ask for a few minutes of your time to explain why I created this GoFundMe page. While retiring from the military in 2016, I simultaneously was served with divorce papers from my now ex-wife. I had to leave my house by court order in 30 days and despite my year long efforts, I still had no job prospects. Needless to say, I was petrified with the looming prospect of being homeless. It came down to the wire-I was going to have to walk out the front door in three days with no home, no job, and no income. It was literally the scariest situation I've ever been in in my entire life. It was a real life lesson that I will never forget. Three days before I was to leave the house, a company four hours away called and offered me a job. I took it immediately but it made it extremely difficult to see my children the one weekend I get them. Anyway, this situation had such a huge impact on my life that they made my heart break for other veterans transitioning out of the service wondering how they are going to make it. I got an upfront, personal view of what it's like for all the single fathers working hard to pay child support and still maintain their bills while the threat of jail always looming in the back of their mind. I wanted desperately to help them see they are not alone in this struggle. Well, I decided to buy a home and start finding transitioning service members to place in each room. By allowing them to stay here, it will help their transition back to civilian life and allow them to focus on the things they're trying to accomplish at the moment, whether it's going back to school, simply working and getting their financial affairs in order, recovering from a divorce, etc. While I am not an official nonprofit organization and I realize that may be a (legitimate) concern, I will provide documentation for all received donations if requested and all receipts for purchases. The funds will be used for repairs, appliance replacements, lawn care, and various other essential home maintenance to keep it running and in a serviceable status for all residents. Any funds are greatly appreciated and there is no expected minimum. The goal of this is to see how this goes and possibly (hopefully) make this into a full blown non-profit organization.
