Chaplain Tomas and Theresa Kamont's Medical Journey

Dearest Friends, Family and community around American Legion Post 327
My heart aches as I share the heavy burden that our beloved Chaplain, Thomas Kamont, and his dear wife, Theresa, are currently facing. For the past two years, they have navigated a relentless storm of serious medical challenges and the added hardship of job loss.
Theresa requires specialized medical care that tragically falls outside the scope of Medicaid and Affordable Care Act insurance. This cruel reality has forced them to exhaust their precious emergency savings and even their anniversary funds, just to meet the staggering $2,080 monthly cost of COBRA insurance – a lifeline that doesn't even fully cover their essential doctor and hospital expenses.
Now, they have reached a point where they have nowhere else to turn, their resources depleted just as Theresa stands on the precipice of her first of three major surgeries. Imagine the devastating consequences if they are unable to afford their COBRA payment. All the hard-fought battles, the crucial medical tests, could become meaningless if this vital surgery is postponed. Adding to this immense pressure, their COBRA coverage is set to expire in June 2025. Already, they are struggling to keep up with the mounting bills for essential pre-surgery tests, and more are undoubtedly on the horizon. Their very home, so close to being theirs outright, is now at risk, threatening their stability and peace of mind. They desperately need our help to keep a roof over their heads, the lights on, food on their table, as they navigate this incredibly difficult period until they can find work again and begin to rebuild.
The unexpected blow of Theresa's job loss in December 2023, due to unforeseen company restructuring, has been compounded by the frustrating complexities and delays in securing vital health benefits like Medicaid, Medicare, VA Benefits, and Social Security. Projects that once offered a glimmer of support have been stalled or altered, and Tom's handyman business has also experienced a significant slowdown.
They have bravely carried this burden alone for as long as they could, but now, our cherished members truly need the embrace of our community. I implore you to open your hearts and share their GoFundMe campaign far and wide. Let's ensure it remains visible, a beacon of hope, for as long as it takes.
This is an ongoing struggle, and we will share updates as their needs evolve and as they courageously work towards healing and a more stable future. Please consider checking the GoFundMe page regularly, as even a simple visit can significantly boost its visibility.
Let us rally around Tom and Theresa with the unwavering support and compassion that defines the American Legion family. Let us show them that they are not alone in this fight.
With heartfelt sincerity,
All of the Friends Family and Fellow Legion Members.
