Chabad in S. Monica is a not for profit 501 (c) 3 organization that has been helping people and spreading Jewish Awareness in the "Simcha" Monica and surrounding areas since 1973.
One of our most well known projects is flooding the city with the lights of Chanukah Menorahs. We install and light 70 Menorahs in and out of local shops, businesses and throughways. We have created the city with the most public Menorahs per square foot (and probably per capita too!)

By bringing so many Chanukah Menorahs to the "streets" we touch hundreds of thousands of souls, Jewish or not. We bring Jewish pride to many during this time of year, solving (or at least making a dent in) the "December Dillema" for many Jewish children. Our "Menorah Cars" drive around the city and get lots of positive attention too.
In addition our volunteers will be visiting 21 convalescent homes, retirement homes and assisted living facilities nightly to bring the joy of Chanukah and the Mitzvah of lighting the Chanukah Menorah to the infirmed and elderly who may not otherwise have a chance to celebrate. If that is not enough we also hold Chanukah parties in many of these facilities during the Chanukah day.
This means that every night of Chanukah we have a staff of 30 volunteers out nightly ensuring that others have a chance of celebrating the Chanukah holiday. Instead of staying home and enjoying family time, making latkas or frying donuts we are out there taking care of others first.
We get a lot of positive feedback and meet many people happy to see us which gives us great motivation to continue and grow every year. But, this great project has costs, too. We actually light the Menorahs the traditional way, with a real flame (no electricity). The supplies for lighting all these Menorahs and bringing the light of Chanukah costs us lots of money each year. Whether we light with propane camping lanterns or candles, use propane gas canisters or other fuel it is very expensive. The Menorahs have to be built, maintained and stored. We must pay for the Menorah kits that we hand out and transport people and supplies. Giving out dreidel and chocolate "gelt" are expenses too.
But we know how important it is to see a young child or an elderly person light up when they see the Menorah or sing the Chanukah songs with us. When people walk in the street and shout Happy Chanukah to one of our passing "Menorah Cars". So we are asking for you to be a part of it too. Fund this great Chanukah campaign and keep the lights in Simcha Monica glowing all 8 days and beyond. Because when we kindle the light in a Jewish soul it will remain forever and grow stronger.
You can help us reach our goal to raise $25,000 to cover the cost of our Chanukah activities.
In return, we will keep running around all Chanukah reaching out to others and we will be so thankful and appreciative for you believing in us and in our mission. We can't do this without your support and when you pass one of our Menorahs you will know that it was YOU that are flooding the city with the lights of the Chanukah Menorah!
All donations are tax-deductible.
