Chantelle Brawley is a Laramie native and small business owner, and has been the primary nighttime taxi driver here for nearly 18 years. She's owned her own taxi company for nearly 15 years, and has been a staple of the Laramie community and the town's nightlife for as long as anyone can remember. Beginning 7 years ago, through her company, she also began providing 100% free rides to the entire community of Laramie on nearly every major drinking holiday and major event throughout the year...doing so completely out of her own pocket and on her own time.
Unfortunately, as many of you know, she's also battled severe health issues since the moment she was born...including a major heart defect that has necessitated the use of a pacemaker since she was 8 years old. This also means that once a decade or so, she has to undergo major surgery to replace said pacemaker. To complicate things, however, the last couple of times there have been additional issues with the pacemaker's leads...leading to a slightly more involved and much more costly operation and extended recovery time due to the lead extraction and replacement.
The time has come for another one of those operations on February 19, 2025, and Chantelle and her husband find themselves in an extremely challenging financial situation. While insurance will cover most of the actual operational cost, there are still significant out of pocket costs. More importantly, however, due to having to completely shut down the taxi business for at least two weeks, they will be without any income during that time as well and are scrambling to find a way to keep the bills paid. Additionally, they anticipate that business will be slow to recover well beyond that, as a consequence of being shut down for such a period of time.
Also, as a minor consequence, as of right now Chantelle has had to cancel the usual free rides event planned for the community for St. Patrick's Day as well.
We're hoping that the community of Laramie can come together to help support Chantelle and her family during this trying time and help keep the lights on, both in her home and her business...so that she can focus on recovery and getting back to serving Laramie as she has so faithfully for nearly two decades.
The goal isn't extreme by any means; she just needs a little bit of help (as we all do sometimes). The goal has been calculated purely based on the anticipated bills (including continuing insurance coverage) and expenses during this time that Chantelle and her family don't have the funds to cover, as well as a small safety net until business returns to normal.
Please keep in mind that anything helps. Even just a $10 donation goes a long way. This isn't an all-or-nothing scenario; the closer we can get to the goal, the better, but literally anything helps.
Chantelle is sincerely grateful to all their longtime friends and family, as well as the longtime customers and regulars of Snowy Range Taxi, that have helped out a bit recently off the books as well. You're appreciated more than you know.
