Support Chantalle Freeborough’s Fight Against Breast Cancer
Chantalle Freeborough is a vibrant 34-year-old mother to a 7-year-old son, Luke, living just north of Barrie, Ontario. Known as “Chany” to her friends, she’s a warm-hearted friend, a dedicated professional, and a beloved member of her community.
After a decade working at Georgian College, Chantalle recently joined the National Angel Capital Organization (NACO) to help them reach more women investors.
Despite facing challenges, she’s always approached life with strength and resilience.
In 2020, Chantalle endured a serious snowboarding accident, suffering a severe concussion that left her unable to work for 18 months. It took two long years, but she fully recovered, showing her characteristic determination and courage.
Two years ago, her life took a happy turn when she met her partner, Marlin. Together, they recently bought an older country bungalow, investing their time and savings to transform it into a beautiful family home. This spring, they received joyous news—Chantalle was expecting her second child, a baby boy due in January. With Marlin, Luke, and their dog Tilly by her side, life seemed filled with love, hope, and new beginnings.
But in October 2024, everything changed. After experiencing chest pain, Chantalle received the devastating news that she has an aggressive form of breast cancer, requiring immediate chemotherapy and, eventually, surgery.
Chantalle began chemotherapy just three weeks after her diagnosis, leading to painful side effects, including painful “burns” to her esophagus, low white blood cell counts, and ongoing dehydration. On November 7th, she had her second round of chemo—already, she has lost much of her hair, a painful reminder of the battle ahead.
That battle include visits to Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie every three weeks for oncology assessment on one day and, if approved, chemotherapy the next day. Once the baby arrives in January, these chemo appointments will become weekly followed by surgery four weeks later. Immunotherapy commences following surgery and this will occur every three weeks. Six-weeks post surgery, radiation treatment will commence.
With their home renovation unfinished, the couple’s finances are stretched thin. They face weekly three-hour trips to Toronto’s Mount Sinai hospital for Chantalle’s cancer and high-risk obstetric clinic treatments. In addition to medical costs, Chantalle now needs a wig to help her feel confident as a young mother and woman, along with costly dietary supplements to help her stay nourished through treatment. Childcare expenses are also mounting with regard to Luke’s care and as they prepare to welcome their new baby in the coming months.
Despite these challenges, Chany remains as strong as ever. She is determined to be the loving mother, partner, daughter, sister, and friend we all know her to be. She faces each day without self-pity, inspiring all of us with her resilience and courage.
Today, Chantalle’s friends and family are asking for your help. We’ve launched a GoFundMe campaign to support Chantalle through this year-long fight for her health and the safe arrival of her baby. Our goal is to raise $50,000 to help ease the financial burden, allowing Chantalle to focus on what truly matters: her health and her family.
Please donate whatever you can—no amount is too small. Every contribution brings Chantalle one step closer to recovery.
