Channel Swim for Sea-Watch e.V.
Donation protected
Hi there,
As you might have heard, we managed to relay each other swimming to cross the Channel separating the Frogs from the Rosbeefs. This action is not meant to erase the historical rivalry between the Britons and the French: instead, we want to underline how the EU institutions have let its shores – namely the Mediterranean Sea – become a cemetery. The Central Mediterranean is the deadliest known migration route in the world, with more than 17,000 deaths and disappearances recorded by Missing Migrants Project since 2014. Put differently by Mathilde Auvillian: “the sea has become a dangerous black hole where our humanity is being swallowed up. Far from our eyes, if not our shores, the bodies of those who drowned will probably never be recovered and their identities never known. They will not rest in peace on the seabed, but for eternity on our consciences” (Politico, 21/04/2021).
We believe no one should drown looking for a better life, which is precisely why we crossed the English Channel swimming on the 13th of June 2022. The purpose of our symbolic crossing - which lasted more than 15 hours - is to raise funds for Sea-Watch, an NGO doing fantastic safety work in the Mediterranean Sea. 35000 people have been rescued since 2014, thanks to their missions. Anything will truly make a difference.
A special thanks to our friends and family who have supported our project from the start!
Cheers,
Yanis & Emma:)
