Change the Lives of Muscovy Ducks In Florida

The Muscovy Duck is a breed, unlike any other duck. We often call them puppa-ducks because they are so like our furry companions. They can be known to pant, and they even wag their tails. They also make wonderful family pets. Sadly, though, they are often mistreated and killed, just for existing. The Muscovy Santuary of Florida wants to protect the ducks and ducklings found by kind citizens by obtaining property to create a sanctuary for those ducks where they will live out their lives safe from the harm humans bring them. They also want to gain funds to educate the public about the Muscovy breed, so they can live in harmony with them.

In Florida, Muscovy ducks are considered to be an invasive species. Because of this status, they may be killed by anyone who wishes to do so, as long as they are not on private property. It is basically open season on Muscovy ducks, unlike nearly every other kind of duck in the state, where licenses must be obtained to hunt them. With some, the ducks have a poor reputation, so they are often abused. They are often killed in inhumane ways and are even left severely injured to die slow deaths.

When our sanctuary becomes a reality, people will be able to come and visit the ducks and ducklings that they rescued. They'll get to learn about the ducks and the good qualities they have to offer. Children will get to play with ducklings and learn about their care. Families will have opportunities to learn about farm life as they work side-by-side with volunteers to help care for the land and the birds.

Please help The Muscovy Sanctuary of Florida create a sanctuary for these wonderful birds. Our goal of $25,000 will go toward the purchase of much needed property, but much more will be needed to bring the sanctuary to life. No amount will be too small or too large in helping us reach our goal.
