Change my life with an Insulin Pump System
Donation protected
Hi my name is Chris and I am raising money for an Insulin Pump system for myself. In 1997 I was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic and I was able to manage my condition myself with injections and support from the hospital and my GP. I was an outgoing confident person who enjoyed life.
In 2021 I was admitted to Hospital after a routine shoulder operation revealed I had an issue with my heart.
After 4 months in Hospital (due to covid) I eventually left Coventry Hospital with a new heart valve and a triple heart bypass at the age of 46.
Unfortunately due to my diabeties and the damage done to my heart my recovery has not been straight forward, being diagnosed with a low ejection fraction rate (reduced pumping of the heart), diabetic neuropathy (which causes severe pain and lack of movement in my hips legs and groin) chronic kidney disease, normocytic anaemia, dupuytren's disease (which affects my hands) and most recently diabetic proliferative retinopathy (when your eyes grow extra blood vessels causing life changing issues with sight and potentially blindness).
Its fair to say the last few years have been hard, tough mentally and physically.
Having to give up work was a real blow for myself, not being able to socialise or to be independent can make life a lonely, frustrating place and having to admit you need help can also mentally affect you.
An insulin pump(closed loop system) would monitor and deliver insulin for myself, making my condition much more managable without the guess work sometimes required with Insulin amounts where too much can cause a hypo and not enough (as my body will testify) causing damage to organs and many more issues.
This would help me get back on track and would be a fantastic start to 2024.
Knowing that my bloodsugars are under control, giving me the best chance to slow down the neuropathy and retinopathy as well as helping with my heart condition as hopefully i would gain some quality of life back as well as a positive mindset.
On the NHS the wait times as I'm sure you all know are long for services like this, that is why I am asking for help to finance the pump.
Information is in the link below regarding a pump and also shows the costings of the pump and sensors this is what i am asking for help with there are also ongoing costs to keep the pump running
If you can donate it will be so appreciated and will make a massive difference to my quality of life in all areas.
Thanks for taking time to read this.
