Hi, my name is Merit Dixon. I am 34 years old. I have made this GoFundMe account because my life has changed due to a rare degenerative illness. As you can tell from my video it is VERY difficult for me to get into my van.
Over the last 14 years the disease, called Adrenomyeloneuropathy (AMN), has slowly taken my leg strength to the point that I am using a wheelchair to get around instead of walking as I used to. This has made it extremely hard to do everyday activities. I am licensed to use hand controls while driving, but really need a new handicapped equipped van.
I have recently graduated with a certificate in film and make a small income from making videos. In order to replace my current van with one that is suitable for a person in a wheelchair I am having to call on the people around me to try and raise this money. I need to raise this money as soon as possible since my current van is in rough shape. The van does not have a wheelchair lift and I can not even afford regular maintenance. I receive Social Security disability which is allowing me to scrape by.
I am trying to live independently and make a contribution to society, but am having a difficult time doing that. This is why I am reaching out to you. So if you can find it in yourself to donate and/or to pass along my GoFundMe account to a friend or family member I would greatly appreciate it!
