Donate to Cross Lake Wildfire Evacuees - Make Change

Hi my name is Lisa Prinn, I'm part of a group of educators and students who are raising money for our friends who have been displaced since May 29, 2025 due to wildfires in Cross Lake, MB.

Standing Together: Toronto and Cross Lake/Pimicikamak Cree Nation Educators

Since 2016, educators and students in Toronto and Cross Lake have come together—first in response to a tragic crisis, then in the spirit of connection, learning, and long-lasting friendships. What began as an effort to support a community reeling from a state of emergency due to teen suicides has grown into a powerful partnership built on education, collaboration, and shared purpose.

Over the years, this relationship has led to meaningful projects, reciprocal visits, and deep bonds between colleagues, students, and friends. We’ve learned from each other, stood with each other, and built something strong and hopeful.

Today, Cross Lake faces another emergency. The community has been evacuated due to wildfires— front-line workers were evacuated as the ride is now on the main land. The power is out. Smoke fills the air. Once again, they need our support.

You're donation through our GoFundMe will go directly to those families in need on the ground. Right now things that are needed are:

* wagons for the families with children, and babies to make movement easier (also helpful for luggage/personal items)

* Blankets, pillows 

* Diapers, clothing, shoes and other needs as the evacuation goes on. 

There are a number of community members in Winnipeg who we are working with the distribute what we can directly to those who need it.

Change ideas – learn about Indigenous communities and take steps toward reconciliation. Learn about Canada's true history with Indigenous peoples. Why were reservations created? What is the Bryce Report, or the White Paper? How can you make change - by learning, questioning and taking positive action.
