Hi Friends and Family it's me Chandra,
I am finishing up my Masters degree in Aesthetics and Politics at the California Institute of Arts this Spring. It was an intensive year long program that thankfully I survived. (sorry everyone for having to put up with me). The final requirement for completing my degree is a 50-100 page thesis which I must complete over the summer.
Here is why I need funds:
I'm happy to announce that I was recently accepted to attend a major conference in Saas-Fee Switzerland, where many prominent artists, curators, and theorists will be giving lectures and workshops. Acceptance to this conference is prestigious and competitive and it's really a life-changing opportunity if I am able to go, with many benefits:
- I would be able to vastly extend my professional network both in the US and internationally
- Placing this attendance on my resume will help me stand out in the very tough academic job market
-I will gain material and mentorship for my thesis that will make it better
-I will be situated within a contemporary dialogue.
-The peace and tranquility that is Saas-Fee will lend itself to working in a focused manner on my thesis.
Unfortunately the conference is very expensive. It's almost a month long and costs $1,000 for airfare, $4000 for attendence fee $300 for housing, $200 for travel in and to Saas-Fee from Geneva.
I have been working hard to find sources of funds for this however, it is next to impossible to get scholarships and grants within such a short time frame. The conference begins June 5th and runs to 23rd. So far I have raised $500, which was provided by the Saas-Fee Summer Art Institute. I am working on additional grants that may total up to another $500.
I know that GoFundMe does not require that I provide incentives for donations, but I am not willing to take without giving back: If you donate any amount of money you will automatically be invited to an epic going away party provided by me and my favorite DJ friend Eric Carson aka Cojan Rico. (we will be strictly enforcing your donation status at the door). If you donate like more than $250, I will cook a dinner for you and other donors ,who have also contributed that amount, at a private dinner. All will be thanked in the acknowledgements section of my thesis.
If you have any leads on quick turn around grants or somehow any work I could do to earn this much in the time I have, I would like to know about that too.
I hope I am not asking too much. $5000.00 as my goal, will help me with the bare minimums. If you don't want to see me sleeping in the snow or washing dishes to earn food, please keep donating well beyond the goal ##$$.
