For almost four years, Chandra Wiegand has battled stage four non-hodgkins lymphoma (DLBCL) which is aggressive and difficult to treat, as it mutates quickly, as well as graft-versus-host disease (GVHD)
Thanks to you, this mother of two and much-loved second-grade teacher has endured multiple rounds of chemotherapy (R-CHOP, Pola-BR), an autologous stem-cell transplant, and CAR T cell therapy AND an allogeneic stem cell transplant.
Each treatment ended with hope and even positive signs for remission, but her cancer ultimately returned.
She is now undergoing many treatments related to her GVHD.
Thanks to the incredible research being done around the world, Glofitamab, developed by Roche, was approved by Health Canada and is available, but it is a prohibitively-expensive treatment as it is not covered by OHIP.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of everyone here to help defray the cost of her $150,000+ treatment, Chandra continues to fight to stay healthy and is delighting in every moment of time with her boys (even the teenagery ones!).
If the insurance company eventually pays some of the cost, any excess funds will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada to help someone else in need.
