Hello everyone, CGCC is a part of the NJCAA and one of around 80 junior colleges around the country that compete in golf. The program is designed to allow the student athletes to grow at their pace both academically and athletically to hopefully move on to a big university where they will receive their degree of choice. Some will continue on to be golfers at major colleges, and will become college graduates which is the ultimate goal of the program and coaching staff.
The basic reason for this fundraising effort is to be able to sustain the golf program for 3-5 more years without worry of budget constraints, and lack of funding from the school. Obviously Covid-19 has been a challenge this past year, and it has taking a toll on the available funds, and which in turn has an effect on how many kids can be accepted onto the team. Some schools have even disbanded their golf programs due to the pandemic. WE DO NOT WANT this to happen to CGCC! With current budgets the golf program can barely have the minimum of 6 players that are allowed in tournament play, and be able to sustain the program. Unfortunately student athletes are turned away that want to play. To be able to have a full team of 12 is something that is needed and needs to be achieved at this point moving forward. Coaches want to be able to give other students/ athletes the opportunity to be a part of college athletics, and live out there dream as a college golfer. Adding funds will allow the golf program to offer more scholarships, so that which in turn, can help families and students that struggle to pay tuition get an opportunity that is just not in place at this time, and then fill the team with kids that deserve the chance to play, and be able to afford the cost of tuition.
The fundraising effort will also give them the needed funds for tournament fees, travel, practice facilities and equipment, and be able to give the players what they need and deserve to compete at a high level. There are many teams in the conference that have all this in place and Chandler-Gilbert CC needs to be one of them. Just the 2021 fall season tournaments alone will cost between $2000-$3000 to enter plus the expenses that go along with getting a team there. The Fall seasons cost is generally covered by donations to the booster account and fundraisers, so the reason why this is important to provide the opportunity to play.
The team and I realize that this last year has been tough on everyone myself included. I was personally very ill with Covid in January and lost my other job over a year ago because of it as well. So I have dealt with and felt the effects of the pandemic at every level. This is why I feel this fundraiser is so important to the program as to try and help as many new student golf athletes as we can with the opportunity to attend CGCC. I am sure their are many local families that have suffered hardships during this last year, and that have kids entering or were enrolled at CGCC . A few players on the team know this well, so any support would be great.
The timeframe for this fundraiser is short, as the team will start practice in late August with tournaments beginning in September. So just a few months to get the team set, and get these kids on the right path to success. Any donation is greatly appreciated, big or small. Hopefully this fundraiser will be able to support the program for years to come...Go Coyotes!!
Thanks for you time and support of the CGCC Coyotes Men's Golf Team!!
