Nathan is 34 and married to his beautiful, supportive wife BJ. Together they have four children 10, 8, 5, and 1. He enjoys being self-employed in the auto-body repair business and spending time with his family where they reside in Iowa. He wasn't feeling sick, but a quick check up for a lump on his chest has now changed the next few months and years of their lives.
Nathan’s unexpected Stage 4 cancer diagnosis came on August 12, 2020. After a CT, PET, and biopsy it has been confirmed that the cancer has metastasized (spread) through his bones, lungs, and lymph nodes. The biopsy didn’t show a clear start and has been sent to Mayo Clinic for further testing. In the meantime they have met with three oncologists only to hear the same thing....they just don't know where it started. Thankfully this is not hopeless and the oncologists are doing further testing to analyze his tumors and the best treatment protocol.
With the unknown nature of this cancer, his family does not know what to expect. What they do know is that this will be a fight for quality of life and prolonged survival.
They need your help emotional and financially.
Nathan has not started treatment yet, but the search for the right cancer center/treatment is still going. He feels like he is at the doctor everyday and just hearing the same news....we just don't know yet. He needs your positive thoughts and prayers as he finalizes where his treatment will begin.
Financially, Nathan is the provider for his family of 6. Since he is self-employed they are not sure what life will look like once he is unable to work long hours that require labor and paint in the auto-body repair business. To add to the stress and chaos, his business and home were just damaged by "Derecho" a powerful storm that hit Iowa.
All funds donated at this time will be set aside for his treatment, travel, meals, lifestyle changes, clinical trails, supplemental therapies, and day to day life needs of his family. Your contribution will allow his wife to focus 100% on supporting him and their children to enjoy every moment they can with their dad. His 6 year old is anxiously waiting for his dad to become "Ironman" when he gets a chemo port.
Please respect their privacy as a family and use CaringBridge for encouraging messages and comments . The fight has already began as his family and doctors begin to determine a treatment protocol for quality of life and prolonged survival. He will begin treatment as soon the “green” flag is dropped after the latest tests results come in.
