My name's Chandler Spoon and I'm a professional musician in Colorado Springs. It's been two years since I started transitioning, and I've been dreaming about this for what feels like a lifetime.
Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS) is an umbrella term for surgeries that make your facial features softer, more refined, and more traditionally "feminine" - anything from mild surgeries like nose jobs and cheek fillers to more intense ones like mandible reconstruction and trachea shaving. For many transgender people this is the most important part of their transition - it means being less afraid of going out into public, less insecure about how people see us, more at home in our own bodies. Unfortunately, it's still considered cosmetic, and is almost never covered by insurance.

I've wanted to undergo FFS for years but, being a brass player by trade, I wasn't sure I'd ever be able to afford it. Even if I could raise the money, it would mean taking months off of work to recover and relearn how to play my instrument. Because of covid-19 closing music venues I suddenly have time to get this done, and I'm not sure when I'll have this kind of opportunity again.
All donations will be used to pay the wonderful Dr. Mardirossian - he and his office have been so kind and helpful in navigating this whole process in this strangest of times. I'd also be remiss if I didn't thank my family for all their support over the years, I don't know if I'd have even taken thatfirst step if you didn't believe in me like you do <3
