Larry “Chance” Pataki, 82
June 12, 1943 – April 8, 2025

Larry “Chance” Pataki passed into the presence of the Lord on April 8, 2025, at the age of 82. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, alongside his brother Dennis and sisters Diane and Sue, Larry carried a love for music that would shape the course of his life. As a talented musician, he traveled all over the world with his band, eventually living in cities like Boston before making his home in Southern California.

It was in Southern California that he took on the most important role of his life: raising his daughter Amanda. As a single father, Larry was selfless, generous, and kindhearted—anchoring his family in love, faith, and unwavering devotion. He loved the Lord deeply and served faithfully in various ministries at Calvary Chapel Chino Valley for as long as he was able. Even when his health declined, he remained committed—participating in online services and staying connected weekly through his Bible Study Fellowship brothers.

Larry not only had a lifelong passion for music and recording, but also built a career as a skilled auto mechanic. From exotic cars to anything with an engine, he could fix it—and did so with joy, excellence, and a desire to serve others. Whether with a wrench or a guitar, he gave of himself fully and wholeheartedly.

His legacy of quiet strength, deep sacrifice, and abiding love lives on in his daughter Amanda, and in his grandsons, Nathan and Zach. He leaves behind family, friends, and a community who were deeply impacted by his life—and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of life is being planned for June. In lieu of flowers, donations or support may be directed to his daughter for legal fees and final arrangements, Amanda Stahmer. In accordance with one of his final wishes, Larry hoped to have his ashes spread in Israel—a place deeply meaningful to his faith.

We rejoice knowing he is now with his Savior and has surely heard the words:
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
