Chance of Hope for Celina

As many of you know, our mother/sister/friend, Celina Castro was first diagnosed with Ocular Melanoma in 2016. At that time the cancer was localized to her right eye and she underwent a right eye enucleation (removal) . She has since then been receiving CT and MRI scans every 6 months to monitor for any progression of disease.
In April 2021 , Celina received some devastating news as the scans came back showing multiple tumors , 12 in her liver and 1 in her head .
After a biopsy it was confirmed that Celina had Metastatic Ocular Melanoma. What this meant was that the cancer which started in her eye 5 years ago had now spread to her liver and to her head. Celina's cancer which hadn’t spread in 5 years now became aggressive within the last 6 months . At stage 4 Ocular Melanoma is was imperative that she start treatment immediately .
Celina quickly placed her faith in the oncologist team at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, UT. They placed her on a course of immunotherapy which at that time we thought was the best fighting chance . Unfortunately, we soon learned that the treatment Celina was receiving only gave her a 12% survival rate.
After much research , we learned of an oncologist by the name of Dr. Sato who is a specialist in “Ocular Melanoma” at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania . After consulting with Dr. Sato's team, it was clear that they could give Celina a better chance of hope . Dr. Sato agreed to take over care of Celina and since then things have begun to move along rather quickly.
Celina will now need to make the move to Philadelphia to begin a new course of treatment within the next few weeks.
At this time we are asking for any help to get Celina the chance she deserves . We know that the move to Philadelphia including travel, room and board , food , medical expenses, etc. are unexpected . We want to give Celina some peace of mind without all the financial worry and stress. No contribution is too big or too small.
Anyone who has had the opportunity to meet Celina knows that she is one of the kindest and big hearted person you will ever know. Celina would without a doubt be the first one at your front door to bring you a meal, send you a care package, pray for you, and love on your fur babies . And if you are a stranger, Celina would be the first person to say hi to you and then invite you over to her house for a big meal (and then of course would leave with food for days).
We know we have an amazing network of friends and family that can help make this happen. If you can’t give financially please keep her in your prayers .
