Ich heiße Andrej und muss euch als promovierter Lebensmitteltechnologe und erfolgreicher Ironman-Triathlet leider aus dem Rollstuhl schreiben. Als ich mich mit meiner Familie 2013 zur Habilitation in den USA befand, überfuhr mich ein PKW beim Fahrradtraining und beendete mein Leben, wie ich es bis dato gekannt hatte: erfüllt, voller Glück, und von morgens bis abends durchgeplant.

Nach meinem schweren Schädel-Hirn-Trauma leide ich immer noch unter motorischen Einschränkungen, vor allem was die Nutzung meiner Hände und Beine betrifft. Mein Alltag wurde durch meine leichten Sprachstörungen und Konzentrationsschwierigkeiten weiter verschärft.

Ich kann nicht mehr arbeiten und lebe fast völlig isoliert bei meiner Mutter, da ich den Kontakt zu meiner eigenen Familie verloren habe. Besonders meine beiden Kinder fehlen mir sehr. Meine Ersparnisse sind weitgehend aufgebraucht.

Keine Therapie, die meine Krankenversicherung bezahlt, sorgte bei mir bislang für anhaltenden Erfolg, weshalb ich große Hoffnungen auf die persönliche Betreuung im Zentrum der rehabilitation in Pforzheim setze. Leider fehlen mir die finanziellen Mittel, um dort ein längeres Programm zu absolvieren.

My journey—from a former smoker to a sub-9-hour competitor—was a testament to discipline and fighting through every obstacle.

Now, I face a new challenge that no amount of training could prepare me for. Due to an unexpected and significant physical setback, I am in a fight for basic mobility and independence. This is the hardest race of my life, and I cannot win it alone.
