Hi, my name is Guillermo “Chamo” Cabral. Even though it’s not listed on my LinkedIn or résumé, I’ve been driving for Uber on and off to make ends meet.
Like many drivers, I have my own full coverage insurance. But here’s the catch: when you’re involved in an accident while driving for Uber, you’re forced to use Uber’s insurance—and that comes with a $2,500 deductible. That means I can’t use my own insurance, even though I’ve been paying for it. I have to go through theirs.
Recently, I was involved in an accident while driving for Uber. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but now I’m stuck with a $2,500 deductible just to get my car fixed and working again.
I’m already struggling to keep up in this economy. I make less than $1 per mile after Uber takes their cut and insurance eats up the rest. Add in gas, oil, wear and tear on my car, and it’s barely sustainable. Now I’m being told I need to come up with $2,500 just to get my car fixed and back on the road.
All of this is happening in Miami, where insurance, rent, and all living expenses are so high. It feels impossible.
If you can contribute even $5, or simply share this page, I would be deeply grateful. Your support helps me move forward and hopefully out of this impossible cycle.
Thank you for reading and for caring.
