Think Computer Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that focuses on improving understanding of the legal system and assisting those with disabilities (mostly in the Cleveland area). It's part of the joint venture that runs PlainSite (https://www.plainsite.org) along with Think Computer Corporation, a for-profit software company.
Donations here would go exclusively to Think Computer Foundation.
This fundraising campaign relates to the Foundation's transparency goals: it's an effort to raise $5,000 to start litigation against the California court system with the aim of making legal documents easier for the general public to obtain. Right now, different California courts charge different amounts to obtain documents. Some are free, but many courts charge fees as high as $1.00 per page. By comparison, the federal PACER system charges $0.10 per page at most, making California's fee structure 10X higher in some instances.
$5,000.00 should be enough money for our attorney, Michael Risher (formerly of the ACLU), to cover expenses for the litigation. If we raise more than $5,000.00, we'll use the funds to cover ongoing operational expenses, such as purchasing court documents that we make available to the public for free.
Thanks for your consideration!
