Chaldon Pre-School Forest School Expansion
We watch them scamper and run about
So full of joy as they laugh and shout
Flowers, sticks, fruit and nuts all there to find
Robins, magpies, jays and birds of all kind
And ropes and swings and trees to climb
So much to learn as they have a good time
But the great outdoors has a sting in its tail
As we know it brings rain, snow and hail
And when it happens where do they go?
No safe dry spot as we all know
Maybe with help to erect a shelter
Their outdoor experience would be so much better! (Martin Bergs, Landowner)
Did you love playing outside as a child? In this world of constant screens and digital distractions the outdoors is a continually evolving playground. Plants grow, flower, seed and die. Puddles and streams come and go. Animals make their homes and leave their mark. Some days are warm, while others are bitterly cold. And the very fact that it is unstructured means children can try things out, take risks and make their own decisions.
Chaldon Pre-School is a small, friendly charity-run pre-school for 2-4 year olds based in our community village hall. We are a leader in Forest School provision locally, with exclusive use of a private site within walking distance and a dedicated and qualified Forest School Leader. Forest School enables children to get outside and experience nature in a safe and secure, informal educational setting.
But... at the moment we can't run Forest School when the village hall is closed or in use by another group or if it rains or is very cold, as we have no shelter. We would like to train more staff to work in the Forest School and create a sheltered area where children can eat their lunch. This would also enable us to expand our Forest School provision to additional sessions throughout term time and to introduce a summer play scheme.
Please help our pre-school children to get muddy by donating to our cause!
We would like to:
-Put up a yurt
-Buy some learning resources
-Install a log burner and fire pit
-Train another staff member to deliver Forest School
-Double the number of children taking part in Forest School weekly to 16
-Gain accreditation with the Forest School Association
-Run Forest School for another 4.5 hours a week during term time
-Run 2 sessions of Forest School for 6 weeks of the summer holidays
“Both my boys absolutely love Forest School. If they could do it every day they would. From swinging in the trees to camp fires. Learning to work in a team and just having good old fashioned muddy fun.” (Mother of Jacob and Joshua)
