UPDATED NOV 6, 2024: At the beginning of November 2023, Chai (Lyman) Bayles underwent surgery to have a cancerous lump removed. The surgery went well, no cancer was detected. We thought it might be the end of Chai's cancer journey.
We thought he was lucky.
Today, a year later and on Chai's 32nd birthday. he learned that he will start chemo next Monday. His cancer has returned and spread to lymph nodes.
This is so much more than an out patient surgery. Chai will be undergoing three rounds of three week long chemo therapy treatments. He will start Monday and continue these treatments throughout the holiday season and into Feb.
Chai and his little family are the kind of people that make everyone around them feel good. Chai has been a kind and happy soul his entire life. He has always been able to make friends with strangers at the next table. He loves the outdoors, being with family, and helping anyone find deer and elk. Chai is a sportsman through and through.
Chai is also a really good dad. He loves teaching his girls about the outdoors, takes them camping on his own, and is passing down his skills and traditions to them. This news is a massive blow to his entire family.
We (his extended family) are reaching out to try and help cover some costs for our brother and his wife while they manage this news, cancer treatments, and attempt to keep Chai's job.
Here's what they need help with:
- Deductibles: Chai's insurance through his work is not great. Before insurance will cover anything, they have to pay thousands. Despite saving like crazy this year, they don't have what they need.
- Additional Bills: When Chai's insurance does kick in, it will not cover all the bills, only a percentage of them.
- Lost work hours: Currently, we are unsure how much Chai will be able to work in the next 3-4 months. He is hoping to continue working throughout treatment but will more than likely need to take many days off. Unfortunately, bills don't wait.
We're hoping to raise enough money to help this sweet family out of a rough spot. All money raised will go towards hospital bills, lost wages and keeping the ball rolling.
We keep everyone updated here.
Please keep Chai and his sweet family in your prayers.
Any donation helps, even $1. Happy Holidays!
You make a difference!
