A Stance for Chad

In May of 2018, our dad spent well over a month in the hospital with pneumonia that wasn’t getting any better with medication or normal treatment. After over 40 days, numerous tests and surgeries, he was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease with myositis. This is an autoimmune disease that is attacking his lungs, which currently function at around 45%. To put this in perspective, when someone’s lung capacity is around 40%, a lung transplant is needed to survive. Over the past several months with current treatments and medications, our dad’s lung capacity has not been able to stabilize like we had hoped. A typical recovery for a lung transplant surgery is approximately 6 months. In an attempt to avoid the brutality and long recovery of a transplant, we’ve been searching for other options to help our dad. After much prayer, research and consideration, we’ve come across an alternative treatment that is not currently available in the United States.

The Stem Cell Institute in Panama offers this alternative treatment in the least invasive way possible for what our dad needs. Although this treatment option does not guarantee complete functionality of his lungs, it does guarantee the likelihood of significant improvement. This treatment entails infusions and injections of millions of stem cells taken from the umbilical cords of ALREADY born babies. Their purpose is to go in and take over bad cells in the body and then they begin healing the areas in the body’s cell system that are failing to do their job. The benefit of this kind of treatment is that there are no negative side affects beyond flu-like symptoms for three to four days post infusion. On top of that, the average recovery time is ONE WEEK. Certain types of stem cell treatments (mostly for bones and joints) are available in the United States, however, this one (for organs) is not.

With this alternative treatment outside of the United States, it comes at a price that is outside the realm of insurance that is covered by dad’s job at the church. With that being said, each treatment costs approximately $35,000-$40,000 each. We are anticipating for the likelihood of needing three to four infusions. We believe the sooner our dad can get these treatments completed, the sooner he will feel better. Our goal is to bring our dad to Panama for his first treatment in the early fall of 2019.

Our dad has spent the last 25+ years pouring into and sharing the love of Jesus with the people around him, including being the lead pastor of The Refinery Christian Church in Goodyear, Arizona. We want to come alongside him in support throughout this journey so he can get back to doing what he does best, to the best of his abilities.

We recognize that this is a lot of information, but we are praying that this treatment will exceed all of our expectations in healing our dad. The most important thing that we would like to ask is for continued prayers for healing and guidance throughout this journey. We want to bless the socks off our dad! Please help us reach our goal, whether financially or through prayer, to help us get our dad to Panama. #JOYonthecalendar
