UPDATE: It’s been roughly a year since we posted this GoFundMe for Chachi, and how generous the response was! As we said then, we say again – Chachi thanks you, and we thank you, from the bottom of our hearts!

Thanks to your help, Chachi was able to find and fund a new place to live, still near her beloved community. While her health is still very shaky and she still continues her cancer treatments, she is recovering slowly. She still goes out weekly to pick up trash and tidy up her neighborhood: her own personal service project. And while she is still building up her stamina, she is able to take some small jobs. She is so eager to get back to work!

But she still has a long, long way to go, and her funds are running short. So we are turning to you, friends: can you find it in your hearts, and pockets, to help Chachi once again?

We’re aiming once again for $12,000 to cover Chachi’s bus fare, groceries, cat food, rent, basic necessities, and medical needs for a year while she continues her recovery and gets back on her feet.

How can you contribute? Any amount, however small or large, helps! Here are a few suggested donations (adjusted to cover rising prices):

Bus fare: $23 buys a senior's monthly pass
Cat food: $3 buys her a few cans, $10 gets a week's supply, or $40 covers a month
Groceries/Basic Necessities: $75 covers a week, or $300 stocks Chachi's shelves for a month
Rent: $150 covers a month
Medical: $100 covers doctor visits and medication for a month
Mobile phone: $50 pays for one month's lease and service.

Even if you can’t donate, sharing this campaign with others means the world to her and to us. Let’s show Chachi the same generosity she’s always given to others.... thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

About Chachi – the Angel of West Baltimore:

Despite a rough start in life and little formal education, Chachi has created a life based on hard work, kindness, and service. She never let conditions define her—she simply found ways to help others, no matter what. As long as we’ve known her, she’s been there for us: cleaning homes, pet-sitting, dog-walking, and stepping in whenever emergencies arose. She’s the kind of person we could always count on, always doing more than asked.
“I do it for the animals and for you good people who love them,” she’d say, keeping her rates low so even her elderly, fixed-income clients could afford her help. She didn’t just care for our pets—she loved them, spending extra time playing with them, comforting the shy ones, and making sure they felt safe while their people were away. Her pet-sitting clients often returned home to fresh, clean houses, because Chachi had taken it upon herself to tidy up—never asking for extra pay, just doing what she could to make life easier for others.
Living on subsistence wages in a neighbor’s basement with her beloved cat, Lucy (see below pic), she’s never asked for much—just the occasional bus fare or can of cat food. Even when her own health declined—first an ulcer, then pneumonia landing her in the ER—she pushed through, showing up for others despite the toll on her body.

But then came the one-two punch: first, a throat cancer diagnosis, and then, the news that she was losing her home after 15 years in the basement apartment: her landlord had other urgent plans for the space. Unable to work, with no savings, and unwilling to leave her beloved Lucy for a shelter, Chachi’s future looked dire.
Thankfully, after her many years of giving, Chachi’s clients and friends have stepped up, helping her secure new housing. But she still faces a long road ahead—unable to work as she recovers her strength and struggles to cover basic living expenses.

This is where you can help. We’re raising $12,000 to cover Chachi’s bus fare, groceries, cat food, rent, basic necessities, and medical needs for a year while she recovers from cancer. Extraordinary people deserve extraordinary karma!

How can you contribute? Any amount, however small or large, helps! Here are a few suggested donations:

Bus fare: $23 buys a senior's monthly pass
Cat food: $3 buys her a few cans, $10 gets a week's supply, or $40 covers a month
Groceries/Basic Necessities: $65 covers a week, or $260 stocks Chachi's shelves for a month
Rent: $150 covers a month
Medical: $100 covers doctor visits and medication for a month
Mobile phone: $50 pays for one month's lease and service.

Even if you can’t donate, sharing this campaign with others means the world to her and to us. Let’s show Chachi the same generosity she’s always given to others....thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
