Please help Mikhaila continue to be able to do color guard year round. As a newly single mother of three, I am simply not able to afford this pay-to-play sport anymore. Can I beg YOU for a little assistance?
I'm a strong supporter of children playing sports. It builds relationships, teaches teamwork, requires dedication and follow-thru, keeps them busy and out of trouble, plus is known to boosts brain power.
Why Color Guard?
4 years ago, a friend invited Mikhaila to check out Southridge's Youth Color Guard. That's all it took, she was hooked. Sleep, Eat, Spin, Repeat! And all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA as well.
After 2 years of youth guard, a year of marching band & high school guard (each at $475 a season, http://simde.org/causes/danceguar), Mikhaila was invited to join the Orgeon Crusaders Drum Corp and spent the entire summer traveling the US, practicing & performing all over the country. While she was able to get a $2,500 scholarship, it was still an expensive expedition for our family (http://oregoncrusaders.org).
Mikhaila has been looking for a part-time job to help cover some of the costs, however, being only 15 there are very few opportunities for her (especially with limited availabitly due to schooling & practice times).
On top of it, little Maria has been dipping her feet in the color guard water as well. The last two year she's been a part of the Hillsboro Minis, and this year is considering join Southridge Youth as a 5th grader.
Why I need your help?
Recently separated, I'm working full-time to support my family on my own. We don't take vacations and try to keep our living expenses to the bare mininums. However, color guard is the exception and it's expenses are now taking 20% of my annual income.
I would be ever so grateful for any help you can offer. Even $5 can go a long way.
"A thankful heart is a happy heart"
PS - If you prefer, checks can be mailed directly to the institutions with Mikhaila McKenzie in the memo:
