Hi, My name is Jen and I would like to raise some money for my friend's dog Ruger. Ruger's Mom, Wendy, has been helping Ruger through a lot of medical issues the last couple of weeks. She started noticing rashes develop on him, which she thought were just allergies. There rashes started getting worse and turned into welts. She took him into the Vet and after blood work, they found out that he had ZERO platelets and should be rushed to the emergency room. She was pretty much told that "He is lucky to be alive right now".
She ended up taking him right away in tears concerned for Ruger but also with the weight of knowing how important Ruger is to so many people. She ended up getting more advice from the ER doctors and had to stay the night. The next morning Ruger was transferred to the FETCH Hospital to see a specialist. When he left the ER, he went up to 2 PLATELETS.
The FETCH specialists explained that he will need to have many treatments to help get his platelets up and if they do not increase to a certain amount, he may need to go through a blood transfusion. With a treatment, he was able to be sent home with Wendy but have to go back to the Hospital every other day for bloodwork and more treatments to help his platelet count. With some steroid treatments, and much love,
Wendy and Ruger received great news after a couple visits that his platelets went up to 157,000! Due to his treatments, Wendy was informed that even though his levels went up he will still need to go in for more medication to help ween him off the steroids. Due to the shock of his system, it may cause him to have an auto-immune disease. He will need to see a specialist to explain more and he will most likely have to be on long term medication. The Doctors believe he was poisoned by a flea/tick topical treatment!
I know how much Ruger has fought through all of this and how much he means to our community. I know many of you would be willing to give a little to all of these medical bills and help with at least some of his medical bills. Throughout all of this, Wendy was stressed for her boy and even more stressed due to the fact that she felt obligated to take care of him for all the other people that Ruger is such a huge source of Love and Joy.
Any little bit will help Ruger and Wendy through this tough time.
