Surgery for my dog Lady

Donation protected
Hi everyone! My name is Ben and I’m looking to raise at least $3,000 to help pay for a surgery that will save my dogs leg from being amputated. Her name is Lady, she is a 2.5 year old Golden Retriever and she has been such a blessing in my life!

On Tuesday evening, March 28th, I decided to go for a run with Lady because it was perfect weather. After a few miles I decided to drop her off at my house, leave her in my fenced in backyard to enjoy the sunshine, and I would continue for a few more miles. I started the rest of my run on a busy road that I live off of. I’m only 15 seconds or so into my run when I’m scared by someone slamming on their brakes behind me. I turned around to see what was going on and there was Lady, hit by a Jeep wrangler that had been going 55 mph. I instantly started running towards her and was in complete shock of what had just happened. I never would have thought this would happen to my little girl. Lady had managed to get out of my fence through a small gap that had been there for 2 years since she was a puppy. The only reason she wanted to and found a way to get through the gap this time is because she saw me from my deck, over the fence line, and wanted to be with her dad!

After getting hit, Lady was able to get her self up from the hair and blood that surrounded her and limped back to my front yard. When I got to her I finally saw the damage that had been done. The flesh on her back left leg had been completely ripped off. So much so that you could see down to her bones, tendons, and ligaments. There was blood everywhere. The end of her tail had also been degloved. This left 3 exposed and bloodied vertebrae. Thats when I realized the hair that I saw on the road was part of her tail that had been ripped off.

I then got Lady in the car and drove her as quickly as I could to the nearest Emergency Animal hospital. After an overnight stay, a few thousand dollars, and emergency surgery on her leg and tail, we were able to bring her home the next morning. There ended up being enough flesh on her leg for the Doctor to suture it back together. The Doc also put a splint on the leg to stabilize the tendons that had been damaged. For Lady’s tail not so much, she ended up having 3 vertebrae of her tail amputated. The doctor also informed us of a bone chip they found on the X-ray but didn’t think it would be the biggest issue.

Now we are a little over two weeks removed from the incident and I have received some bad news from my vet. The bone chip has actually become the biggest issue and the splint will not heal her leg the way I was hoping it would. Lady will need another surgery to fix the bone chip in order for the tendons and ligaments in that area to heal and grow back to somewhat of their normal strength.

If the surgery is not done, Lady’s leg will be an ongoing issue and the only other option we have is amputation... This is why I’m creating this go fund me. Please help me in saving my little girls leg! She has so much more life ahead of her to enjoy with 4 healthy legs! Thank you in advance for your thoughts, prayers, and donations. Anything helps!
