Help Steve Kick Cancer

Donation protected
We’d like to introduce you to our good friend, Steve Neufeld. He lives in Squamish and is an avid mountain biker, climber, hiker, and skier. He is also an exceptionally talented carpenter who runs his own business bringing people’s dreams into reality with his beautiful custom carpentry.

Steve lives an active, healthy lifestyle, but started struggling with his health about two years ago. Despite relentless effort, doctors were unable to give him an answer as to why his health was declining. Now let us tell you, Steve does not sit still, especially when it comes to his health. During this time he did everything in his power to figure out what was going on and overcome his symptoms, but his concerns were largely overlooked.

In early December, Steve was set to finally receive a CT Scan he’d been waiting on for 9 months that the doctors thought would likely diagnose him with Crohn’s disease.

The next morning he received rush calls from multiple doctors informing him of the worst, Stage 3 Renal Cancer. He has a large 9 cm tumor on his kidney (that is currently inoperable) and multiple other cancerous lesions on his lung and liver.

A few days after that, Steve’s personal vehicle unexpectedly broke down (needs a new engine).

The following night, he was hospitalized in the middle of the night after experiencing extreme pain from (what the doctors guess) passing a large kidney stone.

Despite all this, Steve maintains an incredibly positive attitude and has done his best to maintain his fitness. He was back in the shop the next day, trying to honour the commitments and timelines he promised to his clients for their projects. He truly goes above and beyond to make sure the people around him are taken care of, all the while juggling multiple phone calls and scheduled medical appointments to build a treatment plan to begin fighting his cancer. He refuses to let circumstances determine his life.

Two days later, his work van broke down, further restricting him from getting around, and now completely preventing him from finishing his custom installations.

With no vehicle, Steve has been relying on borrowing from friends for anything from getting groceries to getting to his medical appointments (all of which are in Vancouver, 1 hour away).

Steve is well-loved by everyone who knows him and is such a kind and genuine human. He is an endless source of support for the people around him; Steve’s MO is that “nobody struggles under my watch”, which is why we’ve put together this Go Fund Me.

Funds will be used to cover vehicle repairs (collectively more than $10k), cancer treatment expenses, as well as general day-to-day expenses while Steve can’t maintain the physical demands of building and installing.

Steve is adamant that cancer is not going to define who he is or write his story for him, that he gets to write the story of his life. He is only 40 years old, and has a multitude of life left to live. The goal right now is to treat the tumor and get it to a size where it can be surgically removed.

Steve is the kind of person who is the first to give help but would never ask for it. As his close friends and adventure buddies, we want to do whatever we can to make his life easier by removing financial stress and giving him this time to focus on his healing. We want to make sure he knows he has people in his corner.

Thank you so much for supporting our friend Steve,
