The Jon B. McPhail Family Fund
Jon McPhail was a gifted litigator, committing his career to protecting those in need. He often represented clients who could not afford to pay him. Outside of the courtroom, Jon worked to protect green spaces and natural resources both as a board member of Milton Grows Green and through his participation in the National Resources Committee in Alpharetta. During his life, Jon devoted all of his energy and his intellect to serving others, including neighbors, family, and those battling substance abuse.
On Jan 2nd 2019, Jon McPhail passed away unexpectedly at home. The shock of his sudden loss left his family and friends devastated. He is survived by the love of his life, Martha Cato McPhail, and his son, Leeland McPhail.
His son, Leeland McPhail, recently relocated from New York to Atlanta to be closer to his family. Leeland and his wife, also named Martha, anticipated more time with him, however, are thankful and treasure the time they shared together this past year.
On January 20th, 2019, Jon’s family and friends gathered together to honor, remember and celebrate him at the Dunwoody Nature Center. The guests took turn sharing their stories. Some shared their personal stories of how Jon helped them get back on their feet, often free of charge. Others shared stories of Jon’s love of all things barbeque and family. Some common themes emerged; Jon was a devoted friend and father, true family man, proud father, gifted litigator and selfless community member. With an unmatched wit and genuine smile, Jon loved the life he lived and all of those around him. The crowd of guests spanned all walks of life, illustrating the type of man Jon McPhail was.
As often happens with unexpected loss, there are amassing expenses and paperwork to tend to while also trying to cope with the weight of losing the love of your life. Martha, with the help of friends and family like you, will be able to to manage the families personal finances in the midst of this tragedy.
On behalf of Jon McPhail, we have setup this GoFundMe account to raise money for his family. We will leave it in the hands of Martha McPhail and hope that it helps to ease the burden left in the wake of this devastating loss.
We thank you for your support. We hope it honors his legacy and it is just a small way to give thanks to the man who gave so much of himself to others. The world would be a much better place if there were more people who genuinely love others the way Jon McPhail did.
In Loving Memory of Jon McPhail and all he gave to so many
