Hello everyone, my name is Nisha and I am reaching out for my mom, Vimala. People who know her best describe her as the most charismatic and strong woman who has seen many hardships in life. I have been living in Canada for the past 6 years. She has come to visit me and has been in Winnipeg, Manitoba since April 09 2025 on a visitor visa. It was a big dream come true for her to come to Canada as she always dreamt of travelling internationally, and wanted to spend some quality time with me and see places around. We had a return journey to India booked for Oct 05 2025.

Unfortunately, on 7th Sep 2025, she had a stroke, which damaged a large part of her right brain. She lost her speaking and swallowing ability, and needs assistance with mobility. On top of that, on the 3rd day of the hospital stay, she suffered a heart attack which made her condition even worse. Doctors have been trying all kinds of pills to control her uncontrolled high blood pressure. I am devastated beyond words, with no family here for support. I am acting strong so I can take care of her, even though nothing feels normal anymore.

The most unfortunate thing is that all her medical expenses are not covered under travel insurance. This has added the unexpected financial burden together with the emotional trauma. The hospital room, daily tests, doctor’s fees and medications have already been added up to thousands of dollars per day. Her recovery requires weeks to months of hospitalization, regular scans, tests, speech and language therapy, swallow therapy, physiotherapy and a long uncertain journey of ongoing treatment. Doctors are still not confident of how long the recovery, if any, would take.

I have taken leave from my job to care for my mom full time in hospital, facing sleepless nights and a constant fear. With each passing day, I wish that she fights back and recover from all her illness and pain.

A goal of $120,000 is set based on the estimated costs till date and over the coming weeks. Every donation, no matter the size, is a lifeline that helps my mom through this fight and back to being the energetic, charismatic and loving personality she has always been. I also welcome shares, prayers, and positive thoughts for her recovery back to normal life.

I would like to thank the Malayali Association of Manitoba (President Dr. Santhosh Thomas K and group members for their support and prayers), my manager and colleagues who are taking care of all my assigned work in my absence, and incredible doctors and staff at Grace Hospital who are providing the absolute best care and support.
