Bring Cerridwen Home – A Bronze Tribute to the Mother of Inspiration
We’re raising funds to help the celebrated British sculptor Sam Holland create and install a powerful bronze sculpture of Cerridwen – Mam Yr Awen (Mother of Inspiration) on the shores of Llyn Tegid (Lake Bala), Wales.
This sculpture will be the first in a landmark public art series called Anian – a celebration of Native British and Irish mythology through sculpture. Anian seeks to reconnect the land with the mythologies that were born from it – through powerful, enduring works of art.
The inaugural piece, Cerridwen, is inspired by the ancient myth of Hanes Taliesin, a story of transformation, creativity, and inspiration. It captures Cerridwen at the pivotal moment of metamorphosis – from hen back to sorcerer, from vengeance to motherhood, from destruction to the birth of Taliesin, the greatest bard of Welsh tradition.
Cerridwen is both muse and mystery – central to Welsh mythology and bardic tradition, and yet physically absent from the land and culture she shaped. This sculpture seeks to change that. A permanent bronze figure rising from the waters of Llyn Tegid will give Cerridwen a presence, a place, and a voice in the modern world.
The piece will be accompanied by spoken word, the voice of author and druid Kristoffer Hughes, whose recital of Hanes Taliesin will echo from the cauldron, weaving together myth, sculpture, and the living breath of bardic tradition.
This is more than a sculpture. It’s a calling back, a re-rooting of native myth into the landscape. A tribute to transformation, inspiration, and to the goddess who embodies them.
Your support will help cover the costs of:
* Bronze casting and finishing of the sculpture
* Installation at Llyn Tegid
* Audio component production with Kristoffer Hughes
* Permits, materials, and transport
Join us in giving Cerridwen her rightful place in the land – help us bring her home.
