Newlyweds, Joe and Lauren Cervantes purchased their first home in Paradise, California. They were so happy to finally have a home of their own and they loved being a part of their neighborhood and the Paradise community. On Nov. 8, 2018 they had only been there 3 months when the Camp Fire ignited to become the most destructive fire in the state's history.

They were at work in Chico (15min west) when they got the call that Paradise was under evacuation orders. They knew that Paradise had some fire scares recently, but thought they would just grab their dog Cooper, a few things and that their home would be fine.

When they arrived home they realized the fire was very close and they had only minutes to evacuate. Then, driving in separate cars, they were stuck in gridlock for 5 hours as flames surrounded them and the sky was black with smoke. It was a terrifying escape.

We are eternally grateful they made it out alive.

They learned later that day that their home was totaled, everything gone.

Now the huge task of re-building begins, both emotionally and physically.

In the meantime, they still owe their mortgage and property taxes.

They are starting from scratch in supplying a household and need to purchase furniture and all household items.

They need to purchase clothing.

Anyone who knows them, knows these are 2 very hard working people. They are not the type to expect a handout and they don't want people to feel sorry for them. They know they are some of the lucky ones.

We are all blessed to have these 2 wonderful people in our lives.

Please help them lessen their financial burden as they re-cover from this tragedy.  Not having to worry about bills piling up every month, will be a big relief for them.
