Hi everyone,
We are the team behind Cerritos Beach Dogs (CBD), a non-profit dog rescue and a coffee shop in Cerritos Beach, Baja California Sur, Mexico.
Since opening in March of 2023, we have rescued hundreds of dogs and helped provided 1,500 free spay and neuter surgeries to the local community.
Last year brought an unexpected challenge. The property was rezoned, making it prohibited to operate the rescue, and the land was put up for sale. Overnight, the future of CBD became uncertain. The reality of losing everything we had worked so hard to build was crushing.
Our community responded incredibly – more than 4,500 people signed a petition showing how important CBD is to this area. We knew our work could not end.
Buying properly zoned land and building a new rescue from scratch felt far beyond our reach. Then something extraordinary happened: two anonymous donors believed in our mission and purchased land for CBD to continue our mission. There aren't enough words to express our gratitude – because of their kindness, thousands of dogs will have a brighter future.
The land was step one. Now we need to build the rescue itself, and that's where we need your help.
We need to raise $100,000 USD to build our new facility from the ground up — and we've already raised over $40,000 in private donations. We've also received free architectural services and our first-ever computer. We're off to a great start, but we still have a ways to go.
Working with our contractor and architect, we've planned a facility that includes:
- Parking area
- Secure perimeter fencing and front concrete wall
- Required permits and government fees
- Two main dog pens
- Two quarantine pens
- Open socialization and meet-and-greet area
- Separate café and visitor entrance
- Office and storage buildings
- Transport van for veterinary visits, airport pickups, rescues, and supply runs
- Dog houses, equipment, and other essential supplies
- Working capital to operate the rescue
Our goal is to break ground in early September and open the new rescue in early November.
Every dollar brings us closer to giving abandoned dogs a safe place to heal before finding their forever families.
