Century Career Center "Helping Hands"

Throughout our Entrepreneurship class, we have learned about the aspects of entrepreneurship and what it takes as an entrepreneur. We have discussed characteristics of an entrepreneur, how to properly run a business, the types of relationships that come with it, and many other details about how to be successful in your own venture. Something that isn’t as touched on, though, is how entrepreneurs are actually giving back to the community, whether it be directly or indirectly. For us, that part of entrepreneurship is very valuable. As young students, we understand that we are the future, and that we must give back to the community that we are learning and growing in. All of us have brainstormed and tossed around ideas about how we can give back, and now we have narrowed in on single parent families, single parents, to be specific.
In Logansport, approximately 20% of families are single parents, which may not seem all that extreme. On the other hand, however, 40% of residents haven’t started a family, so we must consider the ratio of single parents to full households. There is also an average of three people per single family household, based on worldpopulationreview.com. There is also a 43% child dependency ratio that goes along with this and over 2,000 children in our county under the age of 4. We feel that these numbers need to be considered and addressed to better our community and the residents. This is why we want to propose creating baby baskets full of supplies for expecting parents that need assistance.
In these baby baskets, we want to include many of the essentials to help these parents get on their feet after leaving the hospital. Some of the aforementioned supplies include diapers, baby wipes, baby shampoo, lotion, Desitin, pacifiers, etc. We will also donate all of these items already distributed in diaper bags to be ready to go to the specific families. There will also be neutral colored onesies and other clothing items that can go to all babies. With this, we actually worked with the manager of the obstetrician unit (OB unit) at Logansport Memorial Hospital. She gave us a list of all of the materials first parents need, which is why we are so confident with conducting this project for the community.
Your donations through this GoFundMe are going directly to the baskets and will be handed to the hospital by us personally. You can trust that what you are providing will be utilized. This amazing fundraiser, run by students, will benefit our community in more ways than just the baby bags. You are also showing us, as young adults, the value and importance of giving back.
