Friends and Fellow Workers!
The Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) has purchased and installed a monument in Centralia, Washington to commemorate and honor the Wobblies who died or were imprisoned following the 'Centralia Tragedy' of November 11, 1919. The 'Union Victims of the Centralia Tragedy of 1919' monument is in George Washington Park in downtown Centralia. Thanks to all the workers and unions who contributed- some sent money directly to us so we met our goal. The fundraiser is closed.
The dedication was on Sunday June 23rd 2024.
On November 11, 1919, the IWW union hall was attacked for the second time by a mob of American Legion men acting on behalf of the city's business interests. Armed union members defended their hall. Since 1919 the Tragedy's history has been falsely told by the aggressors, who purchased their monument in Washington Park in 1924.
