It's taken me awhile to get going on this, and it took a fair amount of arm twisting of Mac to get his permission to do it! Our long time, good friend from all things motocross in Central Texas, Mac Whiteside, is hosting a 1969 to 1979 MX reunion on October 19, 2019. I've talked to lots and lots of old racing buddies that plan to attend, and am thrilled about the level of enthusiasm for this event!
I've also talked to a number of people who plan to attend, and even some that can't make it, and there are a number of our old friends who want to help Mac out with the cost of this event. I'm not sure if Mac really knows how many folks plan to attend, as many of the invitations have been word of mouth. It would appear conservatively at least 100 people plan to drop in. And as this continues to spread for these last couple of weeks, it wouldn't be out of the question to see upwards of 200 folks show!
Understandably, Mac plans to keep food and refreshments to the basics, including hot links, chicken, beans and water. He's asking guests to bring their own additional beverages, including those of the adult version, along with anything else you might want to eat.
Feeding 100 or more former racers, even a basic meal, won't be cheap. So this GoFundMe is being set up to help Mac defray costs. I've taken a complete SWAG and set the campaign goal at $1500. I don't know if that will be enough, or too much. If we're fortunate enough to hit our goal, and the party can be done for less, I personally am very comfortable with letting Mac, "keep the change!" I know having 100+ friends to my house would stress and tax me to no end!!!
There's no pressure to contribute a penny to the cause. All Mac wants is to get a bunch of very good friends together, to reminisce about some of the best times of our lives. So please contribute as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. If you can't help financially, please consider helping in any other way that's comfortable. If you can bring a couple or few dozen hot links because your uncle runs a meat market, please do! If you'd rather pick up beans at Bill Miller's on your way to Mac's, that'll work, too! And if you can't pledge money or help in other ways, by all means, still come to the reunion! That's Mac's number one objective, getting a bunch of friends together to have a good time!!!
