Help my cello debut (SKIN by Connie Harris) in Sweden
Donation protected
Hi! I am Daniel Yiu (IG @danielyiu2005 (if you are interested in past recordings)), a undergrad cellist of the Royal College of Music. I have decided to accept the invitation to perform together with an accomplished composer Connie Harris at the Hjortedart Music Festival, a festival in Sweden promoting the celebration of innovation in music, i.e new music and interdisciplinary, in which I will be debuting Connie’s latest piece, SKIN, together with Connie performing her own choreographed performance art, with the objective of promoting modern arts and sparking reflections on societal norms. (*Composition inspiration detailed at bottom)
This is a huge milestone for me as an artist. Instead of sticking to conventional repertoires of the past, it will be my first ever opportunity to perform solo for a contemporary piece of a living composer. The piece explores bold textures and emotional depth, and I’m honoured to bring it to life on stage. Hjortedart is a vibrant festival that celebrates innovation and artistry, and being part of it means sharing music that challenges, moves, and inspires.
However, here’s the catch: I need help covering travel expenses to get there. Flights, accommodation, and transport are adding up, and as an emerging musician, funding the journey on my own is sadly required, and with also being a student, budget is always tight. That’s why I’m turning to you—friends, fellow music lovers, and kind supporters—to help make this performance possible.
Every contribution, big or small, helps me take one step closer to the stage. If you believe in the power of live music, in supporting new voices, and in helping artists grow, I’d be deeply grateful for your support.
Thank you for helping me share this music with the world.
With gratitude,
Daniel
*SKIN by Connie Harris is a new work for solo cello and electronics, inspired particularly by the works of Marina Abramovió and Yoko Ono, creating a visceral exploration of vulnerability and intrusion. It is a daring and thought-provoking piece of music and performance art that questions the way female composers are viewed in the modern day.
The composer's slow undressing aims to unsettle the audience and prompt them into questioning their own perception of the female figure's relevance to the notes written on her skin. This focus on the female form is a criticism on the inescapability of the label female composer', and how inextricable it is from the music created…
