Celina Da silva Fernandes: Pancreatic Cancer Support Fund

Our good friend, ECE, and amazing human being, Celina Da silva Fernandes was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. For those that know Celina, fundraising is not a form of help she would normally consider, but the stark reality of the obstacles in front of her makes this plea for your support unequivocal.

At only 22 years old, Celina has been navigating the journey to her diagnosis on her own. Her immediate family lives outside of Canada and medical issues are preventing her father’s ability to travel to Toronto to be by her side.

Recently, Celina has been in and out of hospitals seeking answers to her intense and at times immobilizing health issues. In April, after paying out of pocket for a specialized procedure, her doctors discovered her malignant tumour.

Over the next few difficult months, Celina will need to brave the first stage of her treatment without immediate family presence and support. Starting the second week of June, Celina will begin her first of 6 chemo sessions over the course of 3 months followed by surgery. The treatment & recovery cycle per session and exposure at the daycare will not allow for her to return to work. Reluctantly, she must take time off immediately to ensure her immunity is not further compromised.

We, her community, need to step in, to help alleviate the immediate financial burden she will face.

Celina has been a phenomenal and special caregiver for our community’s children since 2020. In order to allow Celina to focus on her health and recovery, this GoFundMe Page was created so our community can reciprocate the care she deserves and now needs.

The ask of all of you is for financial help with basic life essentials during her treatment phase that include rent, utilities, and groceries. Any excess funds will be used towards the out-of-pocket expenses she will incur for medications or non-OHIP covered procedures.
