Celidan Florist has been at the Naperville Plaza for almost 30 years. Celidan has supported schools, churches, scouts, charities and so many local organizations. Covid-19 caused us to temporarily lose our weekly business accounts. All of our regular customers suddenly closed and did not need our services. Restaurants, businesses, churches, nursing homes and schools all had weekly standing orders for flowers and were cancelled. All spring events like first communions, Easter plants and centerpieces, proms, as well as walk-in customers and phone orders for the end of March and all of April were gone. One person worked only for small funeral services and delivery orders with the door locked.
During this time our owner and mentor Karin lost her battle with cancer. She passed away on April 7th. This was such a difficult time. As her daughter and employee throughout, it is a big goal to come back strong. My mom was such a big part of the shop and knew so many people in Naperville personally and professionally. I have made so many personal calls to let people know of her passing while the virus has paused our business. We are trying to navigate the rules of small businesses opening in the next months as well as grieve the loss of Karin. We will work hard in her memory and are determined as we build up inventory of fresh flowers and plants again for sale. We look forward to the future of our small business and appreciate the communities help getting there.
If we find the economy has bounced back and we are doing better, we will donate any extra money in the fund to a charity in Karin's name. Thank you so much for the support. We enjoy being your local florist.
