On August 9, 2019, our beloved Antioch High Class of 1983 alumni, Jeff Spear, lost his life to an unexpected and catastrophic stroke. Jeff was the epitome of health at the time of his death, worked full-time, and acted as a caretaker for his elderly father every night when he came home. He didn't have much of his own by way of material things, but he selflessly gave his heart and soul to so many others. Even in the end, Jeff's organs were donated and went on to give life to others unknown. Although he was probably unaware of it himself, his impact on others was huge, and it was ultimately recognized first-hand when he had over 100 visitors come to see him in the ICU while he fought for his life.
Jeff's love for family, friends, and the community was endless. He was a member of the carpenter's union for over 20 years, and he served for over 17 years as a coach or board member/president for the Antioch Youth Football League, mentoring hundreds, if not thousands, of young men in the community. His boundless energy and work ethic were always on display as examples to all.
Jeff will live on in the lives of all those who knew him, but it is our hope that his legacy lives on forever, for future hard-working student-athletes at Antioch High School. As such, all funding beyond the donations gleaned for his celebration will go towards an annual scholarship in Jeff's name. His love for a party and for all his friends, classmates, and former fellow athletes to remain as close as possible, leaves us with the hope that his Celebration of Life, to be held at Golden Hills Community Church on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 1pm, will be a packed house with those sharing in his passion to give and receive love. It is our sincere hope to honor Jeff in an everlasting manner, and in a style that he himself would love to be a part of......one where everyone is welcome to express their own memories of him. In order to do so, there will be a catered reception immediately following the services at the Antioch Veterans Hall, located at 403 W. 6th, St. in Antioch.
