My name is Glenroy Martin, and I have known Charles for over 40 years of my life.

Charles was a kind, passionate and colourful person with a personality that could light up a room. He loved reggae music and, most importantly, he cared deeply about people. Over the many years I knew him, he was always there to give me great advice. He was highly intelligent and had a wide range of knowledge about so many things.

With the heaviest of hearts, we are asking for your help following the devastating loss of Charles Saddler (aka Pirate) , a much-loved Brighton legend, who sadly passed away after battling lung cancer.

Charles was one of those special people who left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was well known for his love of reggae music, his infectious personality, and most importantly, the enormous love he had for his family and friends.

To so many people, Charles was more than a friend — he was family. He brought people together, shared laughter, music and memories, and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

We are raising funds to help Charles's family with the funeral and associated costs, so that we can give this true Brighton legend the best possible send-off — a celebration of his life surrounded by the people, love and music that meant so much to him.

At a time when Charles's family should be able to grieve and remember him, the financial pressure of arranging a funeral can feel overwhelming. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a real difference and be hugely appreciated.
