Celebration of our friend, Nico

Most of you have heard the terrible news, on Friday afternoon we lost one of our own, Nico.

Over the last year and a half, we spent more time with our ED family than we did our own families.

Losing one of our own is heartbreaking and devastating. We are angry, we’re sad, and we’re confused. This will never make sense. We can remember all the good Nico did during his short time on earth. He was compassionate, caring and truly selfless.

Nico was born in the Philippines, and later moved to the US. In 2008, Nico moved to CT to live with his aunt Maffi and Cousin Anna. Maffi was an RN in the ED at the time and Nico joined the team as an ED tech. Nico worked so hard for years and 2 years ago passed his boards and became a Registered Nurse. Although, it took him time to realize it, he was an exceptional nurse from the start. He started off as a shy, timid nurse who soon blossomed into a confident and compassionate nurse. He always delivered the best of care to all his patients. His colleagues were also so fortunate. Nico made sure to watch over his colleagues and help them even when his zone was crazy. He always lent a helping hand, and was eager to continue to grow and learn. Every patient he served, every colleague he worked alongside, were so blessed to cross his path.

We are praying for his wife Grace, his mom Marilou, his youngest brother JR, family and friends. Along with his aunt Maffi, his brother Julian works at GH in Materials Management and his cousin Anna works in HR. We will miss him terribly, our ED family will miss him terribly. I hope you can find peace and strength in your memories of Nico.
