Michael Damon Lewis Jr. Funeral Fund #Forever19

I am writing this with the heaviest and most broken of hearts. My beloved 19-year-old son, Michael "Mikie" Damon Lewis Jr, passed away on Saturday, November 5th. We had no preparation for this to happen. I wasn’t supposed to have to lay my child to rest.
Michael was born on January 28th, 2003. Full of life and always the most loving, giving, goofiest young man. He loved to make everyone laugh. Mikie loved so hard and truly cared for his family and friends. He had a passion for cars and creating and building things, I always called him a tinker. Mikie had the biggest of hearts and was such a fighter.
A year ago, Michael suffered a gunshot wound to his head. The doctors told me he wouldn't make it through surgery. Family and friends prayed so hard that Mikie would pull through. We prayed for more time with him. Despite the doctors telling us he would not make it, by the Grace of God, Mikie pulled through. When he woke up, he was paralyzed on the left side and had a large portion of his skull removed. Mikie's fight to recovery had begun. He fought day and night to learn how to swallow again, talk, sit up by himself, and use his right side independently. Mikie was determined to walk again, and he did!
After coming home from inpatient therapy, Michael struggled with major depression and PTSD. Learning to cope with social acceptance and the changes in his physical appearance were some of the most challenging obstacles for Mikie. He started to give up on himself and his recovery. On November 5th, 2022, Michael, my baby, my first true love, my son, gained His wings. All of the pain, struggles, and battles Michael endured had ended. We are unsure what caused this, but we believe Michael passed in his sleep.
Our family was unprepared for this nightmare. We hope that in sharing Michael's story with you, we can receive your support in laying our precious, deeply loved young man to rest. Funds received from this fundraiser will be used to cover the costs of Michael's memorial services. From the deepest of our hearts, we thank you for your love, prayers, and support during this unimaginable time.
