Dean Eaves was not only a dear friend and colleague, but also a remarkable band director and jazz musician at North Broward Preparatory School. For over 20 years. Dean also assisted John Nista at Ramblewood Middle School. wherever Dean went he inspired students and colleagues alike with his passion for music, his talent as a professional saxophone player for 30 years, his dedication as a recording engineer and master at writing, arranging and scoring music of any kind. Dean’s impact extended far beyond the classroom—he was a father figure to his sister Dawn's children, a loving stepfather to his wife Jaime Boyett's children. Dean was the 1st cousin to Stephanie Garcia the wife of well known Jazz guitarist Jorge Garcia a former instructor at North Broward Preparatory School for several years.
Dean lived a humble life, always putting his family and loved ones first. After being together for 10 years, Dean married Jaime Boyett two 1/2 years ago. He embraced her children and continued to support everyone around him. Jaimie, an educator and chair of the Special Ed program at her school, has shown incredible strength during this time. Dean spent an extended period in hospice, and his family rallied around him, providing care and support every step of the way.
We are raising funds to cover the costs for Dean’s celebration of life and to support the Grammy Camp Educational Program for high school students. Dean’s influence helped his saxophone student, Will Bridges III, perform at the 2011 Grammys alongside Esperanza Spalding, thanks to encouragement from Candi Tandy, Jorge Garcia, and Dean’s entire after-school Jazz Music Theory group, all of whom registered for Jr Grammy Camp. Your generosity will help us honor Dean’s legacy, provide comfort to Jaime Boyett Eaves and her family, and continue Dean’s passion for music education.
