This fundraiser is for the memorial costs of my father, Carlos Diaz. The man, the myth, the legend, often imitated never duplicated. He was the strongest man I knew, a true badass. Unfortunately, though, he was hospitalized for Covid pneumonia on Dec 30th, was put on a ventilator Jan 2nd, and from there it became a battle for his life. His organs started to fail starting with his lungs, then his kidneys leading to him needing dialysis. Then he got an infection in his bloodstream from his central line. What with all the medication to sedate and paralysis him, his antibiotics and blood pressure medication to keep his heart rate steady it began to overload his liver. It was at that moment our lives came crashing down around us. The doctors told us he was losing muscle memory and his body was deteriorating. If we left him on the ventilator they said he would die in three days, that was on Jan 15th. We had decided that his best chance of surviving at that point was to take him off the ventilator. We were still putting all our faith in God to heal my dad’s body. When they removed the central line on Jan 16th his body went into shock and the doctors could no longer find a heartbeat. We didn’t get to touch him one last time, we could only watch him from behind the door. While we’re still reeling from the loss of our protector, our 911 dad, we are planning a celebration of his life and what a true G he was. While we’re totaling the cost of the memorial at 7,000, we are making it our goal to reach 25,000 for the transitional costs for our mom’s first year without him. We needed him and wanted to keep him forever but if there is one thing my daddy taught us, it was how to be strong, so we will forever keep him in our hearts and push on no matter how badly we want to go back.
