Happy birthday Vee!
Veronica Cho was the most thoughtful, caring person I was fortunate enough to meet, with a heart of gold and a sense of humor that would leave you absolutely stunned. She was a talented artist, an incredible friend, and so much more to so many people.
Vee passed away too soon in 2019.
We are planning a birthday celebration and community market in memory of Vee, and we would love to have you!
Since 2021, as a community we have raised and donated over $4,000 to various harm reduction and addiction recovery resource organizations in memory of Vee. Every October in honor of her birthday, we all join together virtually to celebrate and cherish her, while also doing our part to address the tragic circumstances that took her from us. This year, I'm asking you to join us in person on October 27th.
How We're Celebrating
Come to connect with your community and share in food, art, and education. Come to meet the Alliance for Positive change, a local harm reduction agency that we have been supporting since 2022. Come to see local artists and vendors, or to share your work. Most importantly, come to celebrate Vee!
Where Your Donations Will Go
- Alliance NYC: Our primary goal will always be donating to organizations providing resources and care. Your generous support will ensure that more low-income New Yorkers can access life-saving harm reduction tools and training.
- Venue Rental: We are coordinating with a spacious gallery venue that will allow for anyone to attend throughout the day, while still having enough space to host many local organizations, exhibitors, and vendors. For example, Alliance NYC will have a table where they will provide free Naloxone training and harm reduction supplies.
- Event Equipment and Food: What's a birthday without cake? This small portion will cover basic supplies and a lunch hour for the event.
Why Alliance for Positive Change?
I met Vee in 2017 at the Cooper Union in the lower east side. Vee was a New Yorker and she loved this city. We cherish this, and we are committed to supporting local organizations first and foremost. That's how we found Alliance's LES Harm Reduction Center.
Alliance is an NYC community provider that delivers on the promise of positive change with health care, housing, harm reduction, coaching, and economic mobility programs that equip people to navigate systemic inequities and achieve health and well-being.
Every year, they provide over 1,500 Narcan kits across NYC, resulting in over 140 reported overdose reversals. Alliance promotes the dignity, health, and safety of people who use drugs with opioid overdose prevention tools and training, a Syringe Service Program, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), and harm reduction education and resources that enable people who use drugs to protect themselves and each other.
