Please consider a donation in Sunny’s name to the Chicago Golf Gals to support their mission of empowering women of all generations through golf.
Sung “Sunny” Kim, age 63, of Aurora, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2026. A former United States Air Force veteran, he was a devoted family man with a beaming, contagious smile, whose favorite activity was far and away golf. If he wasn’t working he was out playing 18 holes around the Chicagoland area. When he wasn’t playing he loved to watch golf on tv, especially the LPGA as he was always impressed with their technique and prowess.
In the last 6 years Sunny’s relationship to golf changed, as both his daughter and son-in-law would pick up the game. We had the opportunity to share some amazing moments together learning the game from him and playing at countless courses including Torrey Pines, Sand Hollow, Wolf’s Creek, and others. More recently as a new grandfather, Sunny was beyond excited to share his love for golf with his grandson, Remi to one day complete the perfect foursome.
Sunny will be missed immeasurably by his family and friends, including all the random golf pairings that would have been so lucky to play with him in the future. He embodied what it means to be a golfer, always having a smile on his face and a positive outlook no matter what challenges he faced.
We want to honor Sunny’s legacy and his love of the game by paying it forward, in lieu of flowers for his funeral, with donations to a great cause like Chicago Golf Gals - with an emphasis on growing the game he loved and got to share with his daughter and family.
Thank you for your kindness and support.
