Celebrating the life of Steve Heavirland

As Steve’ wife, I would like to share who my wonderful husband was and why this page was started.   Steve, aka “Schwinn”, bravely fought Multiple Myeloma, a debilitating cancer, for six long years.  Sadly, he lost his battle on Saturday, April, 13th.  He was 56 years young.  Throughout his many lengthy chemo treatments,  painful bone biopsies, and two stem cell transplants, Steve never let on to those around him how he was suffering. Instead he was always smiling and helping those around him in any way he could.

Along with being a loving husband of almost 25 years and a wonderful dad to Conner and Jake, Steve had hundreds, if not thousands, of friends from all walks of life due to the many hobbies he loved. From surfing, mountain biking, bowling, billiards, skateboarding, and beach cruising, just to name a few, Steve was a friend to all.  He was truly someone you wanted to hang out with. He always had the best stories, albeit some of them were heavily embellished. His stories always made people smile.

Aside from all his outside activities, Steve liked to bake. His most beloved treats were his chocolate chip cookies, brownies, and fudge. For every holiday or special occasion, friends and family always anticipated these sweet treats that only Steve could make. No other could compare.

In 2013, when Steve was first diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, he had to say goodbye to the one aspect of his life that he truly loved most, his motorcycle. From Harley’s, Honda, and KTM, Steve was truly free when he rode.  He was a natural at pretty much everything he did and he lived life to the fullest. It is because of Steve’s love of life that his family would like to have a Celebration to honor him.

The donations collected would be greatly appreciated to offset the costs of the Celebration of Life memorial as well as burial and any lingering medical expenses.  Steve’s passing has left an immense  void for his friends and loved ones.  He is missed  and will remain in our hearts forever.  The Heavirland family would like to extend their gratitude for everyone’s kindness at this very difficult time.
