Celebrating the Life of Matthew Johnson
It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of our beloved brother, Matthew Gregory Johnson. Who died unexpectedly on the night of April 4th in Seattle, Washington.
Matt was a phenomenal musician. He played the guitar and sang with a voice that could stop you in your tracks—raw, powerful, and unforgettable. Music was his outlet, his gift, and one of the truest reflections of who he was. But Matt was so much more than his talent.
He was wild, loud, hilarious, and full of life. You always knew when Matt was in the room—his laugh could fill a space and his energy was contagious.
If you knew Matt, you knew his loud laugh, his fierce love, and his big heart. He was imperfect, yes—but he was deeply human. Despite everything life threw at him, he never became hard or cruel. He could have given in to bitterness, but he remained a lover, not a fighter.
He struggled with addiction since he was 13—over 40 years of trying to fight something that never fully let him go. He was homeless for the past 16 years, but recently there was a shift. There was hope. He had just bought a truck and an RV, and he and his girlfriend Heather were beginning to rebuild a life together. He was proud of that, and so were we.
Now we are working to honor Matt the way he deserves—with a Celebration of Life, and by bringing him home to rest with dignity. To do that, we are humbly asking for your help. We are trying to raise funds to cover:
- Celebration of Life expenses
- Travel costs for our sister to fly to Seattle to collect his ashes and remaining belongings
- Basic arrangements for his remains and memorial
Anything you can give—whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this with others—would mean the world to us.
Please also remember to check in on the people who are struggling. The ones who are hard to love. The ones who get overlooked. Especially them.
Matt deserved a better ending. But we can still give him a beautiful goodbye.
Thank you for your love, your support, and for seeing Matthew the way we did—with compassion and care.
With gratitude,
Matt’s family ❤️
